Barcelona Circuit Secures F1 Future Through 2032 with Rotation Agreement
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has secured its place in Formula 1 through 2032, following confirmation of a new agreement that will see the venue alternate annually with Belgium’s iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
The Catalan venue was facing an uncertain future as its previous contract was set to expire, with the introduction of a Madrid street circuit in 2026 casting doubt over Barcelona’s continued participation in the championship.
Rotation Schedule Confirmed
Under the newly announced arrangement, Barcelona will host races in 2028, 2030, and 2032, running alongside the Madrid event, which has secured a permanent spot on the calendar through 2035. The circuit will share its slot with the Belgian Grand Prix, which had previously confirmed hosting duties for 2027, 2029, and 2031, in addition to the current season.
New Identity and Upgrades
The event will undergo a rebranding, becoming known as the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, with the Spanish Grand Prix designation now transferred to the Madrid race.
The contract extension comes on the back of significant circuit improvements, including the construction of a rooftop facility, enhanced hospitality areas, and the installation of solar panels across the venue.
Official Response
Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali welcomed the agreement, praising the passionate local fanbase and the circuit’s investment in infrastructure. He expressed optimism about future developments to the racing experience for both circuit attendees and the wider city.
The circuit has demonstrated its commitment to fan engagement through hosting popular fan festivals in recent years, with organizers expected to continue enhancing the spectator experience.
Looking Ahead
The 24-race 2026 season opens with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne from March 6-8. The inaugural Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix under its new name is scheduled for June 12-14, while Madrid will make its championship debut from September 11-13.
